BIOCOM ::

Demand for Talent: Current & Projected Workforce Trends in the Life Science Industry

The BIOCOM Institute is a proud member of the executive committee for the Coalition of State Bioscience Institutes (CSBI), which serves as an umbrella for national initiatives for life science workforce development.  CSBI provides the opportunity for state bioscience organizations to share knowledge with the goal of improving bioscience education and innovation, while maximizing industry support. With its focus in these areas, CSBI complements the life science policy work of the Council of State Bioscience Associations (CSBA), formed by the BIO in 2002.

One of the most pressing questions for the life science industry today is "where are the jobs?" and "where are the jobs going to be"? In collaboration with Booz & Company, CSBI unveiled the first ever in-depth national analysis designed to provide insights into the most pressing current and projected workforce needs in our industry.

This introductory analysis begins to articulate the demand for the most critical talent, training, and skill set needs of the Life Science (LS) industry today, and will help inform the actions that key stakeholders should take to ensure that we are preparing the talent pipeline to meet demand three years out.  The CSBI intends to institutionalize this annual data collection and analysis to include maximum participation from our industry. We expect this ongoing analysis to be of tremendous value to legislators who administer workforce training funds, educators who are preparing the next generation of talent, and to companies who are making strategic business decisions.

Mentors Needed for the BioCollaborative Military Veterans Program (MVP)

The BIOCOM Institute and ZBglobal are seeking 15 biotechnology leaders to spend a few hours with a high caliber group of military veterans as part of the BioCollaborative Military Veterans Program (MVP) at CALBIO.

Engage in 1:1 conversations with a select group of military veterans looking to make a career transition into the life sciences/biotechnology industry.  Help give back by providing your insights and personal experiences on how to make a successful career transition as well as to help these veterans understand the life science industry to determine if it will be a good fit.

Your time is respected and your involvement would be limited to June 12th in the evening, June 13th at CALBIO, and June 14th (depending upon your schedule), as well as 2 or 3 brief phone calls, or face-to-face "coffee" meetings, in the 30 days following the CALBIO event.
